As an active bassoonist, Wickham has performed throughout North America, Europe, and Hawaii as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. Native of Portland, Oregon, Wickham holds a Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes College of Music, Masters of Music degree from Temple University, Bachelors of Music degree from Portland State University, and has participated in such festivals as the National Repertory Orchestra, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and Texas Music Festival. In 2004 Wickham was selected as a guest Artist/Teacher in Residence at the Crane School of Music in New York as part of the VH-1 Teach Music in NYC program. In 2005 Wickham made his solo debut in Hawaii with the Kona Ohana Orchestra with the Weber Bassoon Concerto. Since then he has been a featured soloist with the Rutgers Symphony Band (2010), Orquesta Sinfonica Juvenile de Nuevo Leon (2007) and Facuildad Orequesta de Camara (2007) in Monterrey, Mexico. Christopher has been a member of Orquesta Sinfonica de Nuveo Leon, Midland Odessa Symphony and Choral, West Texas Woodwind Quintet and has performed with other orchestras such as the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, Delaware Symphony, Symphony in C (formerly Haddonfield Symphony), and Vancouver Symphony. Currently he is principal bassoon of the Riverside Symphonia in New Jersey and a member of Amarillo Symphony in Texas. Christopher’s primary teachers have included Patricia Rogers, Principal Bassoon, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and member of the Juilliard, Manhattan School of Music, and Mannes College of Music faculties, Bernard Garfield, long-time Principal Bassoon, Philadelphia Orchestra and member of the Curtis Institute of Music faculty, Ann Crandall, Principal Bassoon, Portland Opera Orchestra, and Angela Smith, member of the Philadelphia Orchestra. As an educator and conductor Wickham held the positions of Band Director/Music Director at the Konawaena Schools in Kona, Hawaii (2005-06), Band Director for Kamehameha Schools Summer Performing Arts Academy (2005-06, 2010), and Music Director and Conductor o the Kona Ohana Orchestra (2006). Christopher has been a faculty member at the Esquela de Artes de Musicales and Esquela de Musica y Danza, in Monterrey Mexico in 2006-07. Currently he is the Woodwind Musical Director of the youth Orchestra of Central Jersey and on faculty at the Lawrenceville Schools. In Fall 2009 Christopher began his Doctorate of Musical Arts in bassoon performance at Rutgers University in New Jersey where he is a part-time lecturer. Wickham resides in New Hope, PA and is the proprietor of CW Reeds, a bassoon reed making company established in 2007. In addition to performing music and reed making, Wickham is an active choreographer and drill designer for marching bands and color guards throughout Texas, Hawaii, and the North East. |
